“Insanity: Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.”
It can be inferred from that statement, that in order to get different results, you need to change your approach. That concept applies directly to the job search. If you are not seeing results from your applications, resumes, or interviews, then it is time to take a step back, evaluate, and make the necessary changes.
Let’s discuss an example.
You had 3 interviews last week and you felt highly qualified for each position, but you did not receive any of those positions. Have you taken a step back and evaluated your interview skills?
Did you answer the questions directly?
Are you including specific examples or just general statements?
Were your answers concise or did you ramble?
You are applying EVERYWHERE and you are qualified for the positions. But, you have yet to receive an interview. Have you taken a look at ways in which you can approve your application to make it stand out?
Do you have all of the information for your former employers – addresses, phone numbers, dates of employment, salary, etc?
Do you have any issues with past employers? How are you wording that explanation on the application?
Are you highlighting your applicable experience?
There currently are jobs in our market (so don’t blame the economy), but the increase in competition makes it much more difficult to secure stable employment. So, instead of giving up, you need to step up to the plate. Get prepared for the process, improve your job-search techniques, and see improved results.
